Welcome Sarah! My amazing daughter-in-law!! After Sarah's birth, her baby was quickly swept off to NICU to address a rare congenital anomaly that affected her breathing.
In the middle of the night, my son Luke followed the ambulance that held their baby daughter. She was intubated and settled into NICU - neonatal intensive care unit- at a Children's Hospital downtown. Doctors began giving information and instruction. Mom Sarah was still at her delivery hospital, separated from baby. This is a very stressful situation on baby and the NEW parents.
How often do we forget those in hospitals? It's something to think about. If you have been through a long hospitalization with a child or are facing your own illness, you have a special sensitivity and compassion.
